Philanthropy

A letter from our VP of Philanthropy...

Picture

Philanthropy is a very important part of why our sisters joined Sigma Delta Tau. Our philanthropic events allow us to come together as a sisterhood to raise awareness for organizations that hold special places in our hearts, as well as create many amazing memories.
Sigma Delta Tau has three different national philanthropies. JWI is an organization which works to empower both women and girls so they can lead successful lives through education on healthy relationships, financial empowerment, and women’s leadership. Prevent Child Abuse Awareness, also known as PCAA, is an organization committed to preventing child abuse and neglect before it happens through the promotion of programs and resources geared towards child abuse awareness and recognition. The SDT Foundation helps provide scholarships to sisters in need and the funding of essential programming, including relationship violence educational programming and community service based Alternative Spring Breaks. We have many different philanthropy events we host throughout the year. During our EAT Late event each fall, we receive donations from local restaurants and sell the food to Michigan State students. The money is then donated to PCAA. Defeat Abuse Week is a week-long fundraiser in the week of April for PCAA. Each day has different awareness and fundraising events including a tournament style event for the IFC, Pinwheels for PCAA, and our pie-a-sister event. Also, each February, we host a Valentine’s Day Chocolate Bark Fundraiser for the Women's Domestic Violence Shelter of Lansing.

-Becca Bienstock, Vice President of Philanthropy
